‘The Following’ – “Betrayal” Review

Back from the freaking dead.

Poor Ryan. His world was just turned upside down at the top of last night’s episode aptly titled “Betrayal.” Finding out that the woman that he loved, lost and mourned wasn’t as dead as she was supposed to be. Ryan had all the feels last night and I don’t blame him. But what about his new piece Carrie? She won’t be too thrilled that Ryan’s true love was back from the grave.

Claire came back because she wanted to help Ryan take down Joe once and for all and she believe that alerting Joe to the fact that she was alive would throw him off his game and that could be the opening they needed to take him down.

But Joe’s got other problems. Just when he got rid of Micah and Lily Gray, he had Pastor Tanner, who was besmirching his name and trying to make a quick buck and put butts in the pews. It was looking like Joe was putting all of his eggs into the Tanner basket and was completely missing what was going on under his own roof.

Mandy was gone and firmly on Team Lily Gray. Something tells me that she will instantly regretting this decision. Poor foolish Mandy. I honestly think that she thought that Lily would welcome with open arms and forget the fact that Mandy said she wanted to be apart of her family only to take off with Joe. She had no clue that Lily was just as bat shit crazy as Joe. Mandy claimed she wanted to be apart of Lily’s family now, but not giving up Joe’s location wasn’t what Lily wanted to hear and something tells me that Mandy will not be giving out that information willingly… or living to star in next week’s episode.

It looks like Carrie was getting the exclusive that she so desperately wanted. After having Pastor tanner on her show, Joe wanted to get some equal air time and handed yet another flash drive to her to get his message out on the air. She wanted some comfort from Ryan, but he was giving her the EXTREME cold shoulder. Something tells me that once she finds out that Claire is back in the picture, she’s going to start making some questionable choices that will get her killed.

At Preston’s fraternity, his brothers just let two strangers in all black with a duffle bag just waltz in and pointed them to his room. Didn’t you think of asking them who they were and how they knew Preston? With all the killings in the news, albeit in New York, wouldn’t you want to be a little more safe on who you let into your home?

It looks like Lily’s plan to leer Joe in with Mandy didn’t work as Joe told his mouse that he loved her and she returned the sentiment before being left in the hands of the psycho twins. Joe took the loss hard and blamed Emma for not helping Mandy find a place in their new extended family. Emma didn’t think it was he fault, but let’s be honest Emma, you were anything but friendly to Mandy. Ever since Joe brought her in, you thought that she threatened you spot in Joe’s eyes so you distanced yourself from her and never really attempted to bring her into the fold. Mandy didn’t want to have a sexual relationship with Joe; she wanted a parental one. Your jealously blinded you to that and you were so busy trying to secure your spot as Joe’s No. 2 with your devilish snatch that you completely alienated the person that Joe loved the most. Mandy’s death will hang over you and something tells me that Joe might return the favour down the road.

In the end, Preston made it to Joe’s little hideaway… along with Ryan. He’s outnumbered, outgunned, outmatched. The odds are not in his favour, but now that Carrie knows of Claire’s existence, something tells me that your covert op may just go out the window.
